TOFC controlled possession from beginning to end of the game with great passing and relentless pressure. In the 35th minute, Connor Glennon (Vernon) slipped a pass in to Graeme Lewis (Prince George) who dribbled in drawing the defenders then threaded the ball to Jared Quibell (Vernon) who tapped in the game’s first goal.

Just before the end of the first half Coquitlam pressed into the box and a quick flick looked dangerous but Carl Vandekraats (Kelowna) snagged the attempt.

In the second half, TOFC went on a 5 minute blitz. 55th minute Ethan Beselt (West Kelowna) passed to Connor Glennon (Vernon) who maneuvered across the top of the box and scored with a perfect shot into the top right corner. Two minutes later TOFC broke forward when Scott Cramer (Williams Lake) intercepted the ball, 4 quick midfield passes were made with the ball coming back to Scott who bulged the onion bag with a hard low shot. Another two minutes later and another goal came when Quinn Large (Kelowna) cut in from the right and passed to Jared Quibell who one-timed a shot. The keeper dove and blocked the shot, but Jared collected his rebound and snapped in his second goal of the game.

Final Score:   2 – 2 draw

Game Scoring/Highlights:

For the TOFC u13 Intakes (2002) Girls’ 4th league game was a exciting game on a beautiful sunny fall game against Coquitlam Metro-Ford FC in Kamloops, BC.

TOFC came out very strong and aggressive from the first whistle. In the first 10 minutes they displayed improved defensive positioning, ball possession and passing over previous weeks against a strong Coquitlam squad.

Their control resulted in 2 great scoring chances by Sophia Seibel (Kamloops) after making a great run and cross to Brooke Barcelona (Kelowna). The cross was just out of reach for Barcelona and the ball just sailed wide. A few minutes later Kiana Onyango (Kamloops) after making some great runs and challenges on the ball had an amazing opportunity on another stellar run and cross from Siebel. However, Oyango could not put it past the keeper who used everything, including the back of her head, to deny TOFC the first goal.

TOFC and Coquitlam FC continued to battle in the mid-field to gain possession when Coquitlam put 2 quick goals past Sophie Gibson (Kelowna) at the 13′ and 16′ marks after a couple of defensive breakdowns.

However, the TOFC girls then managed to regain their shape and defensive focus. Rylee Seminuik (Kelowna)returned after a non-soccer injury to cement the back line with good defensive focus and positioning from the back line duo of Samantha Brown(Kelowna) and Payton Ward (Kelowna). Both Sofia MacQuarrie(Kelowna) and Maddy Mittlestaedt (Kelowna) showed improved ball control, patience and defensive positioning.

In the second half, the continued defensive refocus of the midfield and defense kept Coquitlam FC from having many chances on Sophie Gibson who played despite a nasty head cold. The TOFC mid-field continued to battle Coquitlam with regular possession changed in the middle part of the game with neither team giving each other much of an opportunity to score.

TOFC were able to create some opportunities on goal but struggled to challenge their keeper with a quality shot. Aly Foster (Kelowna), Brooke Barcelona, Kiana Oyango, and Jessey Large (Kelowna) all managed some shots on goal but the Coquitlam defence would not let them have a good look at the net.

However, at the 62′, Kamloops Blaze call up, Kendra MacDonald, played an amazing corner kick to Sophia Seibel, who volleyed the ball “mid-air” past the keeper. It was one the team’s highlight goal of the mini-season.

TOFC continued to apply pressure on Coquitlam FC midfielders and defence and at the 68′ MacDonald produced another stellar cross after a great interior pass from Lindsay Notte (Kelowna) to find a streaking Kayley Krivoshein(Kelowna) just above the 6th yard line. Krivoshein made an athletic play on the ball and was able to find the back of the net as well. The interior play and pressure and passing from both Aly Foster and Lindsay Notte were very helpful in the manufacturing of the comeback.

The final 2 minutes played out without any opportunity for either team to get the full 3 points.

The TOFC coaching staff continued to be impressed with improvement of team shape, defensive positioning and possession. The girls showed tremendous heart and grit playing back from an early 2 goal deficit that could have been a insurmountable hole to get out of.

After the game, the TOFC u13 Girls Intake (2002) now sit in 6th place with a win, draw and 2 losses. They are just 2 points out of 4th place and will have opportunity to move up the table on the road after a Thanksgiving weekend break.

The girls have completed their 4 game home stand and take to the bus for their last three league games on the road in Vancouver against Fusion FC (October 18), Surrey United FC (October 25) and Vancouver Island Wave (November 1). They then have the playoffs on November 8/9/10 weekend on the Lower Mainland.
