Mountain created their own scoring opportunities, but central defender, Sem Kempman (West Kelowna), held strong with multiple blocked shots and perfect headers.

When Mountain was pressing their hardest TOFC keeper, Carl Vanderkraats, blocked a hard shot from 6 yards out. This save and others helped Carl earn a clean sheet and TOFC a 0-0 tie against one of the top ranked teams in BC.

Final Score: TOFC U17/18B 2- 3 Mountain United FC U17

First Half: Scoring/Highlights:

The Thompson Okanagan FC U17/18 boys lost 3-2 to Mountain United FC U17 in BC Soccer’s Premier League on Saturday at Kelowna’s Mission Fields. TOFC had beaten the Mountain side the previous weekend at The Whitecaps Show Case Tournament in Surrey, and the visiting team clearly wanted to win the rematch. Mountain showed more urgency than TOFC for most of the match. Mountain almost scored at the sixteen minute mark, but TOFC keeper Carson Murray (Kelowna) made a diving save and tipped the ball wide. Five minutes later, TOFC’s failure to clear the ball from in front of the net led to Mountain notching the first goal of the game. At the thirty-one minute mark, TOCF pressure resulted in a free kick on twenty yards out on the right side; mid-fielder Spencer Young (Kelowna) placed a perfect ball into the box and Lake Country’s Max Morgan scored on a header. But seven minutes later Mountain scored again. With less than a minute to go in the first half, Mountain was awarded a penalty kick and TOFC was in real danger of going into half-time two goals down. Keeper Carson Murray’s spectacular save on the PK kept his team in the game and the half ended 2-1.

Second Half: Scoring Highlights:

Five minutes in to the second half, Mountain went ahead 3-1 on a goal where TOFC had given up too much space to their opponents. Murray did manage to get a hand on the shot, but the ball bounced off the post and in. Then at sixty minutes, TOFC scored on a high-light reel goal by striker Joe Overton (Kelowna); Overton received a high pass, juggled the ball three times, flicked it over his head, turned and volleyed into the net. At sixty three minutes, Mountain had a great chance to score off a free kick, but Kelowna’s Zach Sousa won a battle in the air with Mountain’s 6’3” Jr. Canadian national centre-back. At sixty-seven minutes, Nathan Hawe (Nakusp) made a strong run through and just shot over the net. In the last ten, TOFC began to show some urgency but was unable to find a way to tie the game and the match ended 3-2 for the visitors.

First Half: Scoring Highlights

The TOFC U17/18 boys lost 1-0 to Mountain United FC U18 on Sunday in Rutland. Both teams traded scoring chances in the first half of play. Eight minutes in, left-back Ayo Fashanu (Kelowna) made a strong run up his left flank and passed the ball to centre-midfielder Spencer Young (Kelowna) who managed a good shot on net. Young had several shots on net in the half.   It looked as if the visitors would score first when Mountain’s Michael North broke through the TOFC back line. However, he hit the post and the ball bounced wide. TOFC keeper Victor Gouchee (Vernon) was outstanding and made a few spectacular saves in the first half.

Second half Scoring Highlights

In the second half, TOFC out played and out possessed the visiting side.  Ayo Fashanu moved to the wing and continued making strong runs to the net. Matt Fielding (Kelowna) had a strong game defending as a left back and generating offence by sending players through. Centre back Max Morgan (Lake Country) played very well defensively. Although TOFC out-chanced their opponents in the second half, the only goal of the game was scored at the 83 minute mark on a Mountain free kick on the eighteen. Overall, the TOFC boys played a strong game and there is a lot to build on going into their next games.
