Sophia Seibel in action for Thompson Okanagan FC

TOFC’s Sophia Seibel from the 2002 Girls has been selected to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX Program based in Burnaby, BC, on a full-time basis.

As part of the Canada Soccer Pathway, Whitecaps FC have partnered with BC Soccer and Canada Soccer to launch the first Women’s Regional EXCEL Centre (REX) in Western Canada. The Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX Program in Partnership with BC Soccer kicked off in January 2015 and is led by Whitecaps FC Girls Elite staff with support from BC Soccer.

The program is headed by former New Zealand national team and FIFA Women’s World Cup player Emma Humphries, Whitecaps FC Girls Elite head coach and women’s academy director.

Entrance into the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX Program is by invitation only. The EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) and BC Soccer’s High Performance Programming act as REX identification, evaluation, and assessment platforms throughout the year.

Sophia will join the REX program in mid August. She will continue her education at high school in Burnaby. Training is based out of Fortius Sports and Health Centre with the additional use of Whitecaps FC resources at Burnaby Lake 8-rinks facility. Matches are played at Simon Fraser University.

Sophia joined TOFC as an intake U12 player in 2014. She is a technically and tactically strong player who has become a perennial BC Soccer High Performance Program selection. She has been part of the Whitecaps FC Prospects Academy in Kamloops for the past 3 years. Her highly competitive character will serve her well as she moves on to the next level of high performance soccer.

Staff and the Board of TOFC wish Sophia nothing but the best as she begins a new chapter in her soccer and personal development.
