Barrett Buries The Winner |
A clinical first-half finish by striker Chad Barrett was enough to give Toronto FC a 1-0 win in the opening game of their CONCACAF Champions League preliminary round series at BMO Field on Tuesday night.
Barrett struck for the only goal of the match in the 20th minute when he split the defense of visiting Honduran side CD Motagua and buried a left-footed shot in the back of the net, giving the Reds the leg up on the aggregate-goal series.
The two clubs will play the second leg next Tuesday at Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa, with the winner of the preliminary round series advancing to Group A of the annual tournament.

Toronto Draws Bolton, Down In Penalties |
The Carlsberg Cup has a history of being decided on penalty kicks, and on Wednesday night Bolton Wanderers and Toronto FC stayed true to history. After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, Bolton’s Sean Davis finished the deciding penalty shot to give Bolton the win and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan clinched the win by stopping Oscar Cordan’s penalty.
The Carlsberg Cup has gone to penalties each time in its three-year history. TFC have lost all three times, falling to Argentine side Independiente in 2009 and to Mexican club Pachuca in the inaugural game in 2008.

Miguel Ángel Ferrer Martínez, aka Mista (born November 12, 1978 in Caravaca de la Cruz, Murcia), is a Spanish footballer, who plays as a striker for Toronto FC of Major League Soccer.
Mista was a protégé of Rafael Benítez, who first coached him at Real Madrid Castilla, also working with the player at CD Tenerife and then Valencia CF.
At Tenerife, Mista-along with Curro Torres and Luis García-was a key member of the team that won promotion to the first division in 2000–01. He subsequently signed for Valencia, and was a prominent member[1] of the successful teams that won two league titles and the 2004 UEFA Cup, where he scored the second goal in a 2–0 triumph against Olympique de Marseille.[2] On March 21, 2004, Mista netted a hat-trick for the eventual champions, in a 5–1 home crushing of RCD Mallorca,[3] but his goal rate would decrease drastically after 2004–05.
In 2006, Mista joined Atlético Madrid,[4] playing 29 games in 2006–07, but almost absolutely no part in the following season. In July 2008 he joined Deportivo de La Coruña, on a three-year contract. On his official debut with his new club, Mista scored the first goal in a 2–1 win over Real Madrid, on August 31, 2008; constantly troubled by injuries and loss of form, his second league goal would only come more than a year after (7 November 2009), in a 2–0 success at Getafe CF.
Mista signed for Toronto FC of Major League Soccer on July 6, 2010[5]. The deal runs until the end of the 2010 season.
